RESIDENTIAL DESIGNER: McCabe by Design
(This project is the recipient of BIAW’s Remodeling Excellence Award for Best Bathroom 2019)
This bathroom was spacious in length but narrow in width, due to a bump-out wall in the bedroom that encroached on the master bath. The bump-out was reversed providing concealed storage space for shelving (behind the barn door) and a heated towel bar while minimizing the pinch point for a new larger shower, where the bench and recessed shelving was originally. The relocated shower provided room for a coveted linen cabinet, complete with laundry hamper and jewelry storage. The vanity cabinets provide storage and concealed electrical for charging grooming accessories while keeping countertops clutter free.
The net result of this project was a spacious light filled zero-threshold shower complete with his & hers shampoo niches, built-in bench and dual shower heads & thermostatic shower valves. Frameless cabinetry was used for maximum storage and quartz countertops/shower bench and porcelain tile floors with electric resistant heat fulfill the desire for low maintenance and beautiful, slip resistant surfaces. Blocking for future grab bars in the shower and an electrical outlet by the toilet for a future washlet were installed to ensure living in place functionality.
