Contemporary Farmhouse Laundry + Mudroom

The homeowners’ narrow laundry room functioned as the entry point to their home but there was no place to kick off muddy shoes or hang wet coats. What they really wanted was a mud room-laundry room in one compact space.

The wish list for this small room was long: create space for a boot bench, coat rack, shoe shelf, drying rack, more storage, a place to fold laundry and a high durability flooring material with a Farmhouse aesthetic.

To accomplish this, a load bearing wall was moved just beyond the electrical panel. This provided space for the shoe shelf, boot bench, coat rack and upper storage cabinets. The opposite wall was refitted with cabinetry and counter surfaces that facilitated storage, laundry folding and an under mounted sink. A drying rod is mounted over the sink to allow clothing to drip dry into the sink below. Note the hand hole in the left back corner of the washing machine that allows easy access to the water shut off. The flooring is high durability rubber.

The new laundry room helps keep this busy family organized both coming and going.
